A Corvallis girl won Sunday’s middle school girls 1,500 meters at the prestigious Portland Track Festival.
McKenna Henke, an eighth-grader at Cheldelin Middle School, won the race at Lewis & Clark College in 4 minutes, 52.81 seconds.
Henke ran 4:46.14 as a seventh-grader and last month ran 4:46.67, second-fastest for the state’s middle-schoolers this spring.
Those times would put her sixth among Oregon 5A high school runners this spring.
She also has the state’s top 800 middle-school time of the season at 2:20.71 and fourth-best times in the 400 (1:01.14) and 3,000 (10:40.2).
Athletes in the Portland Track Festival included Mo Farah, the 2012 Olympic 5,000 and 10,000 champion from Britain, and two-time U.S. Olympian Andrew Wheating.
