When Curtis Beach won five golds at the state track and field meet in May, it looked like the perfect ending to a memorable sophomore season.
Turns out it was the beginning to an impressive summer.
Beach, the Albuquerque Academy standout, finished fourth in the octathlon at the International Association of Athletics Federations World Youth Championships in the Czech Republic on Thursday. He won the 1,000-meter run and was the only American among a field of 21 athletes.
Beach's overseas performance came about a month after winning the decathlon at the Great Southwest Track and Field Classic in Albuquerque.
