INDIANAPOLIS - Alan Webb has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the 10,000m at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational in Palo Alto, California on Sunday.
A Two-time USA Outdoor 1,500m champion and national prep mile record holder, Webb crossed the line in 27 minutes, 34.72 seconds. It was the fastest-ever debut by an American at that distance.
Elsewhere, world champions Walter Davis and Terrence Trammell each posted world leading marks in winning their events Saturday at the Meeting du Conseil General NACAC Area Permit Meet in Martinique. The reigning indoor and outdoor world triple jump champion, Davis posted a world leading mark in the long jump with a personal best leap of 8.36 meters/27 feet, 5.25 inches. A two-time Olympic silver medalist and two-time World Indoor champion, Trammell ran the fastest time in the world this year of 13.22 seconds in the 110m hurdles.
2004 World Indoor champion Christian Cantwell set a meet record and current world leader in winning the men's shot put with a heave of 22.10m/72-6.25 Saturday at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
